Matthew Hanimov Faux/Fox raises the banner under which all nihilists may proudly assemble. Their music is progressively simplistic and subtle. Favorite track: I Played the Wolf.

1.
life writes the page i believe we’re all the same same dance, same maze and so it goes from birth to grave “we believe good has won and all of god’s people sing along” but brother, i’m not bought or sold when you sing of your holiest ghost i have grown tired of this call and response the ageless mystery repeats life to life you and me folded neatly between the pages of belief
2.
i am one of the broken no matter the distance i put between us another town, another glass nameless and faceless with the strip malls and churches the cliches that we’ve become live on in all the bars every state the same chase spill the ash from the urn someday let us return back to earth and sleep unending change makes us masters of the past that long look back and at some point we’re only lateral travelers i am a plane crash that’ll never make the news and in a few drinks i’ll be the euphoric passengers life glazed over their eyes all this traveling to see that dreams are free here we’re just neon signs with deserts of poverty behind it’ll cost you a lifetime when you want fortune like the wheel make no mistake, i want fortune like the wheel
3.
everything is tragic and when it’s not just give it time we can only live in denial until tomorrow or sometime next week i think i know the crushing sound of defeat i set fire to my own house watched from the roof as the flames grew i just wanted to be something now the neighborhood won’t forget me burdened with my ghost my love i watch your slender body sleep in the hours no soul should creep hold me under water or lead me to the slaughter either way, we’re fighting for every breath dreaming of a debt free death before the banks can take all our dignity before there is no longer any rest in peace
4.
i can hear your hooves and your horns outside my door but just wait the man on the street says i’ll see you soon and all my friends too into the flames together ashes to ashes into the dust my brother is it all for love groomed for the dirt where we’ll grow like weeds back through the earth praise unto your head and the blood at your feet imagine the skeletons we’ll collect and the ghosts we’ll meet someday before our words reach the end of the page conquerors of the new world will suffer the old fate too close to the sun with our wings brother, we’re ashes forever is it all for love groomed for the dirt where we’ll grow like weeds back through the earth are the harvest crops really any surprise
5.
Busy Signals 05:18
i traced the cord back to the wall just to make sure i was right every call declined i’ve been drunk dialing heaven all night just give me the dignity of a busy signal at least the devil’s on holiday and the operator says she can’t patch me through says that these numbers have never been active well who have i been talking to we bow our heads to the unknowable nature of our end every misfired shot is my death is it chance or some great cosmic ghost pulling the string from end to end was i designed with dependence in mind or am i just a portion of static on the line i’ve been born of the urge to know the unknowable nature of the unknown forever whispering into the silence now not even a dial tone i’ll be swimming in these hotel rooms drowning in empty bottles just answer back
6.
cliche of my life we are only mirrors no light to shine we are conquerors a fire set for the blind one day truth like a phoenix will rise i’m a great liar and i’ve always been crack a smile always plotting to crack a rib oh no i played the wolf in all our speed only stillness dormant for years windows staring back nothing: our greatest fear one day truth like a phoenix will rise i am nothing you are nothing we are nothing but wide-eyed and starless
7.
the song’s been singing me there’s no escaping it anymore it’s all i dream it’s all i breathe the song’s been singing me it’s been so long now, it’s all i see it’s all i can be created becomes creator formed clay becomes bone further into the shadow until we’re finally alone
